In 1990, Mary was convicted in Miller County, Arkansas Circuit Court for First Degree Murder in the accidental death of her husband.  She has served 38 years on good behavior.

Mary shot her husband, believing he was a burglar. Her husband Chris was returning from work. He had forgotten his key and entered through the window.  At the time, it was ruled accidental, and no charges were filed. Chris’ family wanted justice for his death and got a petition of citizens asking for charges in the case.  After months of pushing for charges, Mary was charged with First Degree Murder and sentenced to life in prison.

During her incarceration Mary has been active in the Chaplaincy Program and PAWS for Prison, using her time to crochet for her children and grandchildren.  Mary has served 33 years in prison for an accidental shooting that took the life of her husband.
