DecARcerate works to end mass incarceration in Arkansas through community education, smart legislation, advocacy, and empowering the leadership of individuals personally affected by the criminal punishment system. We believe in a state where communities are safe and caring, individuals who cause harm are rehabilitated and reintegrated into supportive communities, all people are respected and treated equitably across institutions, and systems of exploitation and oppression are replaced with ones that are just and create healing.
We seek to empower people directly impacted by mass incarceration by placing them in positions of leadership and providing the training and resources they need to grow as effective organizers.
We work through diverse coalitions to identify, develop, and advocate for smart legislation that eliminates the harmful effects of Arkansas' criminal punishment system.
We mobilize communities through campaigns aimed at dismantling the criminal injustice system and building
a constituency that will press
for criminal justice reform.
We educate the general public by participating in panels and speaking engagements, hosting our annual conference and art-based events, compiling reports, and our upcoming podcast.
