decARcerate is a nonprofit working to affirm human dignity by

confronting unjust systems. We envision a world where equity, healing, and reconciliation replace systems of punishment and oppression.

Utilizing data, storytelling, artistic expression, and research, we educate Arkansans through public events that center the stories and experiences of individuals who are directly impacted by the criminal injustice system.

Education

decARcerate does grassroots organizing and advocacy work, mobilizing communities around issues we collectively care about. Through the work of our campaigns, we seek to create meaningful and systematic change.

Organizing Work

We maintain an ongoing commitment to identify and support criminal justice reform legislation. We imagine a world in which all people are treated with dignity, equity, and justice, and demand it from our elected officials.

Public Policy

Our Court Watch program takes Arkansans into publicly accessible court rooms across the state to witness the harm of the carceral state, shine light on the injustices of the judicial system, and hold judges and prosecutors accountable.

End Solitary

We are working to end solitary confinement and replace it with program-rich evidence-based alternatives. We seek to educate the public, provide support to individuals being held in solitary, and pass comprehensive legislative change.

Abolish Prison Slavery

Prison is an extension of slavery. The 13th Amendment abolished slavery and involuntary servitude except as punishment for a crime. We are working to amend the Arkansas state constitution and finally remove slavery from law.
