Laura currently serves as Co-Chair of the End Solitary Campaign and Movement Builder with decARcerate. She was incarcerated for over 32 years beginning at the age of 17 before being released under the “Fair Sentencing of Minors Act” in Arkansas in 2017. Since her release, Laura has been involved with the Incarcerated Children’s Advocacy Network (ICAN) at the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth and operates a support group for former Arkansas juvenile lifers and their families.
Laura is on the advisory board for the National Religious Campaign Against Torture (NRCAT) and is a founding board member of Human Rights for Kids’ Children’s Rights Committee. In addition to being a strong, vocal advocate in grassroots movements, Laura has been instrumental in the passage of legislation, including ending solitary confinement for pregnant people, ending the shackling of people during childbirth, and ending lifetime parole for people formerly serving life without parole as children who were released under Act 539.
Laura is happily married to her best friend and is enjoying life with her family and being a MeeMaw to the 2 special “lil” guys in her life.
